A Biography Brief Matt Thyer
Howdy,
I’m Matt Thyer and you’ve either clicked one too many times or you actually meant to read my biography. Well, I’m not shy even if I secretly believe that blogs are the worst kind of on-line narcissism. So enjoy the PowerPoint version of my life and times.
- Born September 30th, 1972 in Grand Junction, Colorado
- Grew up in Western Colorado and still consider Grand Junction my “home town” although Gunnison runs a very close second.
- Went to school at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. This was generally a good thing.
- Met my first wife Jennifer in school and eventually left to try to “do it” on my own.
- Moved to Florida (Jacksonville, Saint Augustine, Boca Raton and elsewhere) where there appeared to be opportunity. Was disappointed and eventually joined the service (USA).
- Went to boot camp at Fort Lenardwood, MO. Man was it cold. Cold pretty much summarizes that experience.
- Next stop along the military education path was a visit to Defense Language Institute where I first learned the meaning of failure. Learning Korean is like trying to push rocks through your skull really fast.
- Next stop for military education was San Angelo, TX. Probably not supposed to say much more than that. Jennifer stayed back in California
- Son Justin was born in 1997 while I was still in San Angelo. I took the bus out to greet him into the world, the three of us spent the next couple of months in San Francisco, CA as Justin’s heart was repaired and he recovered.
- Finished school at San Angelo and was moved to Fort Huachuca, Arizona which, while it had its perks, was even less fun than San Angelo.
- Military schooling done my first duty station was Fort Lewis, Washington. Jennifer and I bought a condo somewhere between Steilacoom and Lakewood and I worked largely supporting intelligence collection and distribution systems
- The year 2000, and a number of surgeries passed by like water under my bridge and the Army medically discharged me and my problematic left foot. I went to work for Microsoft and we moved north toward campus.
- Separated for sometime Jennifer and I divorced in 2003.
- Tess Bruney agreed to marry me in 2004 as long as she gets to call me “Noodle”. Go figure, yeah us!
- July 2007 we moved from the hustle and bustle of Seattle area to Ellensburg, Washington. Tele-working has been great and really contributed to my well-being while allowing me the opportunity to contribute to the company I’ve developed a history with.
Suppose I could include awards and other stuff like that in there, but none of its all that important. I’m doing well, reading, thinking and growing. Life is swell.
